What is Therapy?

Understanding Therapy
Therapy — also known as counselling or psychotherapy — is a space where you can explore what’s going on in your life, with someone trained to listen without judgement.
It’s a confidential conversation between you and your therapist, where you can talk openly about your thoughts, feelings, behaviours, relationships, or anything you’re struggling with.
For many people, therapy is the first time they’ve had the space to truly be heard — without pressure to “fix” things straight away. It can help you:
-
Understand yourself more deeply
-
Process difficult emotions or experiences
-
Make sense of patterns in your life
-
Learn new ways of coping and responding
-
Build confidence and self-awareness

There’s no one-size-fits-all approach — every person’s experience in therapy is unique.
At Cliff Park Counselling, I offer person-centred therapy, which means I won’t tell you what to do or judge you. Instead, I’ll walk alongside you, helping you explore what matters to you and supporting you in finding your own answers, at your own pace.
I also draw from other therapeutic approaches depending on what best suits your needs — whether you're dealing with anxiety, depression, addiction, or neurodivergence (including AuDHD).
You might come for a few sessions to get through a difficult time, or you might choose to explore longer-term personal growth. The space is yours.
For some, talking or finding the right words is a difficult process in itself, which is why where possible, I bring in other modalities such as creative therapy. There are so many possibilities with creative work, be it tasks, music, journaling, timelines ..... the list goes on!
